All Dogs Need Some Training
Published in Paperback by Howell Book House (July, 1997)
Author: Liz Palika
Average review score:

Don't be without this book!
This book is excellent in teaching you how to train your dog in a loving manner that earns the respect of the dog. It is one that you can read and say; that is easy enough, I can do that! This book explains not only what to do but why you need to do it that way, helping you understand the way your dog thinks and therefore, how to teach your dog in a way that he can understand what you are asking of him. After ordering one book for myself, I am back to order more of this title to send home with the pups I have to be sold soon. I feel I can really insure a better chance for a happy new life for these pups by sending this book home with each new owner!

Discriptive, humane, and logical ways to train your dog.
This book is a book for anyone who wants a great, loving dog, that is well trained. It explained how to teach your dog the easiest of tasks, like the sit, come, stay, and many more. One option this book had that many other dog training books don't have is a complete chapter on what to play with your dog, and an advanced training section. If you want a dog, that is reliable, good, and intelligent this book is great to read. I did find some of the ways to train your dog physcological, but in the end, it made a ton of sense, and made you think, "Why didn't I think of that?" The illistrations also made it even more understanding, because they showed you what the book ment if you didn't quite understand a segment. Truly, this book is an excellent book.

excellent book on house manners for dogs
A wonderful book on teaching basic house manners to your dog. I liked it as it was written very simply and could be understood by everyone. This is an excellent resource for breeders to include in puppy packets. Plus the drawings are extremely cute.

How to Train Your Shetland Sheepdog

If Sheltie is the Breed for you--this is your book!
Agree with with other reviewer that this is a great resource for sheltie owners, or propsective owners. She's correct in providing the background to why Shelties aren't the breed for everyone, as they demand attention.

She provides needed tips on how to keep the Shelties in your life happy and you in turn happy with them! They do need to work and she provides training tips on doing just that.

Info is provided on selection, stages of development, early puppy training, basic obedience, formal training, problem prevention and solutions, and advanced sports and activities.

We have our two Shelties through obedience and now into agility and can vouch how much fun this breed truly is. This book will aid your enjoyment of this intelligent and loyal breed.

Great Book
This book had great information about the Sheltie. I felt it was quite helpful to me. It also had great pictures!!

If you have a sheltie, get this book.
This is quite easily the most useful sheltie book that I own. Most books about shelties are slim volumes that talk about grooming, the breed history, and a little about temperment. This book dives right in to telling you how to housebreak your sheltie, how to train them to sit, heel, come and stay, and more. It covers a little about competing with shelties in obedience, agility, and herding, and has tons of wonderful pictures. It's full of great, practical, advice. If you're a new dog owner, you should really pick up this book and read it.

KISS Guide to Raising a Puppy (Keep It Simple Series)

Authors: Liz Palika and Alan Gomberg
Average review score:

puppy readiness 101
This is an excellent book for someone thinking of bringing a puppy into the home. A realistic and helpful guide this is different from the Idiot's and Dummmies series in that it is much easier to leaf through. The color coded sections make it easy to flip to a section you need and the pictures are awsome (as with any dk book!) Liz Palika's advice and knowledge are excellent and I know I feel better armed for puppy rearing with this book on my shelf.

Best Puppy Book I've Seen
This book is well organized and easy to read. It is beneficial to the first time puppy owner to the more experienced. Sections on training and first aid are great for all owners. I highly recommend it for all.

Great real-world basics for raising a puppy.
This book is a must read before getting a new four-legged friend.

Liz Palika shares her extensive years of dog training, her insight and love of canines in her newest book.

The five color marked sections, illustrations and summaries give a quick reference to raising a happy and obedient puppy.

The Complete Idiot's Guide to Dachshunds

Great book!
Everything was easy to find and explained in detail, from picking out the perfect dog for you to diseases and problems to look out for. A must have for first time dachshund owners!

From a Dachshund owner!
I share my home with three Dachshunds and bought this book with skepticism as I don't consider myself an Idiot! However, I really do like this book. The author obviously knows our breed and has tailored the standard Idiot's guide format to the breed. There was some good research done, and great information for both new Dachshund owners and experienced ones. I particularly liked the information on health threats Dachsies face. This book is well worth its cost!

This book stopped my puppy from peeing on the carpet!
This book is the best "How To" book I've ever read. I'm not one for instructional manuals, but when my puppy came home and decided the carpet was the best place to relieve himself time after time, I was desperate. This book taught me not only how to potty train my pup, but also how to play with him in the best way to keep him from biting and snapping later in life. The author is a dog trainer and knows what she's talking about. All of the info was easy to understand and easy to put into use in every day life. A pretend schedule is included for various situations such as introducing your puppy to other people. The book also has amusing antidotes about either the author's pets or other people's pets she has run across. The author explains what you should do as far as training and play goes and why you should do it. She has some consequenses included. This is a wonderful book for a first time puppy-lover. It is a must have! Keep it next to the dog food and newspapers!

Wonderful!
The best puppy raising book I've seen. Has a little bit(or a lot) of everything puppy related from selecting your puppy to nifty tricks and games; this book is a definate #1 resource as to dogs & puppies.

How to train your english springer spaniel
this is a very good book. it has a lot of usefull tips. we just got this book the other day and every day since then we've been reading this book. Even if you get tired of reading the pictures are very fun to look at.

A Great Guide for Springer Owners
Ms. Palika's easy to understand description of the English Springer makes for informative reading. A high energy and active breed, it's most important that owners teach their Springers basic obedience and manners. Easy to understand steps in this book will help owners to teach their dogs what is to be expected of them, and to have fun with the training. This is particularly a wonderful guide for the first-time Springer owner. Read and learn!

The Complete Idiot's Guide to Reptiles and Amphibians
Published in Paperback by Alpha Books (18 September, 1998)
Authors: Liz Palika and Bill Love
Average review score:

Before you get a reptile/amphibian, you MUST read this book
If you're considering purchasing a reptile or amphibian pet, get this book first, and read it. The author instructs both on reptile and amphibian husbandry basics, as well as provides a LOT of good information which will help you decide if a herp pet is right for you. The species specific sections are more of an overview and mostly useful for helping the reader decide what kind of reptile/amphibian pet is right for them; a book specific to the chosen species (such as the VMS Herpetological Libray Series) should be chosen to complement this, as the care information is too brief to be an exclusive source.

One for all !!!
Buy this book and you will know all you need to know about pet bird. You will find your suitable bird and how to make it healthy, happy. This book also teach you how to tame and train your intelligent bird. I love this book very much but if you want to know bird breeding in detail and enjoy beautiful photo, you may disappointed. Lack of color photo make me reduce 1 star when I rated but if you don't care, this book is a good choice for you. In my view, it is best to read if you are beginner in pet bird.
